Tomatoes And Potatoes

Here is a gentle look into my garden now, as we enjoy, perhaps, some of the last days of summer. (It’s not fall yet; hold your horses.) In addition to tomatoes, potatoes, and bees, I also have corn, cilantro, carrots, zucchini, chilis, cucumbers, and a big pumpkin coming up, just to mention a few.
This season’s absolute star was cucumber, and honestly, I had never seen anything as big as those guys! I am sure that the key to their monstrous growth was the use of our own compost in the garden beds. The compost was certainly helping my chilies to grow healthier and the flowers to bloom in numerous beautiful blooms, too. Potatoes, which were grown from seed potatoes (Jola and Birgitte varieties), admittedly were more disease-resistant than our old potatoes; but the harvest was not as abundant as I expected. Nevertheless, now we are improving the potatoe soil with a special seed mix, setting ourselves up for success the next season!
Currently, I am doing a little end-of-the-summer “garden maintenance” and cleanups here and there. One day, I am thinning out the overgrown carrot bed, and the other day, hand-pollinating the corn, grabbing a few blueberries from the bush on the way. These days, the apples are getting ready, too…

All in all, I am very content with how everything is growing. It makes me happy to see so much greenery and colour in the garden. 💚
