I am about 8 hours into cleaning the greenhouse, and I am starting with a confession – again, when saying it was a bit more complicated than what I had imagined, hahaha. This time, it is about the glass in the greenhouse and the bugs. (After two days of headaches, my muscles have recovered from the shoveling.) Turns out that polishing this old greenhouse isn’t the easiest task. There are so many tight corners and edges between the glass and the metal frames -perfect places for dirt to inhabit but almost impossible to reach. So far, a dish brush and a sponge have been irreplaceable friends for me.
I haven’t planned entirely through my cleaning strategy yet, but I know this will require a looot of patience.

And then the bugs. You couldn’t imagine how much they all wanted to ATTACK me when they realized what I was going to do to their home.
It’s understandable, I guess. Although previously, I was thinking that the bugs would be sleeping somewhere, elsewhere… Or that if they were not sleeping and instead roaming around, then at least they hadn’t found their home in the greenhouse. Oh, but no, they are VERY MUCH in the garden, and they are PARTICULARILY comfortable in the greenhouse! What was even more fun was that there were many, many spiders lurking around. And I… just… cannot with spiders…
It’s funny because I always try to take pictures of the things that go around in the greenhouse, but it didn’t occur to me to take my phone out and film these guys. Maybe that was because I was busy fighting them back and trying to survive.

But now, I will slow myself down because I know this is part of nature and an inevitable part of the About. I will make my peace with them bugs, and we will share the greenhouse, I promise ๐

Here’s a short recap of other things that has been done so far:
๐ฑ The wooden borders keeping the soil from the middle path have been removed and cut. I will use the remaining pieces for defining the grape bushes after I have decided how to treat the wooden pieces first. Maybe I will even paint them to another colour.
๐ฑ Moss picking with metal sticks. Yup, this is not the pretty and beautiful part of the Sprout & About project, but it is very necessary. It’s the cost to be paid for a cosy place. This is how I motivate myself.
๐ฑ I brushed the excess soil from the rocky edges. I am not entirely sure how I will do with cleaning these nor what sort of finishing would look good on them. I shall see and decide as the project advances.

Finishing the post with something CUTE, and I bring you a picture of the rosmary I saved during the soil removal. I spotted this trick on the internet where you mix oats & epsom salt to help plants recover faster from transplanting shock. I thought I would give this experiment a try; the rosmary has gone through tough times anyway. I guess it couldn’t hurt it more than what it has already experienced. Right now, it still looks a bit colourless, but we will see if the trick works. I think the plant is still alive? Fingers crossed.

Hasta luegoo! โค
